Mary-Liz has undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Toronto and McGill University. She has a
design degree from Parson's School of Design in New York City. Mary-Liz earned a Certificate in Landscape Design from the New York Botanical Gardens and has attained national certification from the Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD).
Mary-Liz formed her own business, Mary-Liz Campbell Landscape Design, Inc. in 2001 after freelancing with landscape designers and working for a highly acclaimed nursery for several years. In addition to her landscape practice, she gardens with passion. She travels extensively to learn about plants and gardens. This serves as inspiration for her landscape designs and garden travel writing.
